Even if the Great Wall has long ceased to be a physical obstacle meant to keep invaders out of the Middle Kingdom, there still remains an invisible “great wall”: the wall represented by Chinese culture. The Chinese market is considered to be of such great socio-cultural complexity that many investors still fail on this account. China and Europe – here it is not only the clash of different economic interests but also the clash of entirely different cultural norms and values, different ways of communication and thinking.

Christoph Stratmann (K.A. Schmersal GmbH, Wuppertal)

When sensing the position of the elevator car, absolute-value transducers offer significant advantages when compared with systems which register only the relative position. Not only is the design of the position-sensing system important. Another question which plays a major role is how data is transmitted from the position sensing system to the elevator controls. Only where the system offers multiple options will the prerequisites for flexible, universal utilization in elevator engineering be satisfied. The following article describes the interfaces which Schmersal uses for the non-contacting USP position sensing system.

On the kind invitation of Mr. Zhang Lexiang I spent November 30th, 2005 in Langfang, accompanied by Mr. Kenneth Chan of LM LIFTMATERIAL (Hongkong) Ltd. Mr. Zhang had expressed the invitation on interlift 2005, where we met last. The visit was dedicated to two goals: First, to personally view the fairground in Langfang and second to pay visit to the National Elevator Testing Centre (NETEC), the most important “Notified Body” in China.
