Many elevators in modern, prestige structures are designed nowadays as highly transparent glass lifts. The passengers feel less confined and enjoy the changes of view as they glide past the stories. What’s more, glass lifts are becoming ever more popular when retrofitting elevators in existing buildings. Especially in ornate older structures, the combination of classical building arts and elevator technology that has been rendered transparent can be particularly exciting. The lift becomes a determinant element in the building’s architecture. Elegant glass doors and portals make a significant contribution here.

Steel wire ropes are among the oldest and most widespread machine elements, and are used in the form of stationary ropes, lashing and suspension ropes and travelling ropes. Travelling ropes of the kind used for instance in elevators, cranes, shaft conveyors and hoisting devices are bent during operation under tension over sheaves and coiled onto drums. During these processes, steel wire ropes are exposed to a complex collective of stress factors comprising flexure, tension and compression which bring about wear.

On the occasion of the firm’s 75th anniversary the many guests at the festivities were welcomed by a daughter (Ms. Helga Kirschbaum) and a granddaughter (Ms. Ursula Neumann) of one of the company’s founders. That in itself demonstrated how very special this successful middle-market company is. Gregor Alda, one of the general managers at Hans & Jos. Kronenberg GmbH, confirmed this when he said: “The history of the company is not made up of products, facts and figures. Rather it is the story of the people who, with their work, have been the pillars of this company.” This began with founders Hans and Josef Kronenberg, was maintained by their children, shareholders and employees, and continues down to today’s general managers Gregor Alda and Volker Wiersch . But also to be included among all these people are the customers and suppliers who have followed and contributed to the company’s fortunes over many years.

The “interlift 07” international industry fair showcasing elevators and their components and accessories took place at the Augsburg Trade Fair Center from October 16 to 19, 2007. The VfA-interlift Association for elevator technology was, as usual, the substantive sponsor while the AFAG Messen & Ausstellungen GmbH was the organizer, and this was reflected in the extensive presence of the international manufacturers’ associations and media.

As was already evident at the previous fair, two years ago, continuing globalization is making its mark on the event. The number of exhibitors and the floor space occupied both rose by about 10 % and an increasing share of foreign exhibitors was also to be noted.
