A general overview is given of passenger safety and accidents on escalators, and how they relate to engineering design, passenger behaviour and overall management (including operation, maintenance, inspection and education). The proposed passenger accident triangular model is presented. It comprises Design, Passenger Behaviour and Management. The interaction between these three elements is discussed as well as the prevention of accidents by manipulating them. Any accident is caused by one or more of the factors above, and understanding this is crucial to eliminating accidents.

The second European Lift Congress Heilbronn (ELCH) of the Heilbronn Technical Academy was held at the Heilbronn University on the 17th and 18th of October. The organisers and more 120 participants from 23 countries in Europe and North America had the opportunity of enjoying a successful demonstration and presentation of in-depth lift knowledge.
