International Trade Show for the Elevator, Escalator and Lifting Industry

The on-going building boom in the Arabian Gulf states has created an equally large demand for passenger and goods lifts and escalators.

Currently approx. 66,000 Lifts are in operation in the Arabian Gulf Region of which 20,100 in the U.A.E.

In the United Arab Emirates alone more than 1100 buildings were erected in 2002. This included 350 industrial buildings, 340 multi-storey apartment blocks with approx. 3200 Apartments and 15 large hotels.

Dubai International Airport – current capacity 18.5 million passengers per year – is undergoing further expansion to meet planned annual passenger capacity of 30 million and to accommodate the new generation of aircraft such as the Airbus 380.
 
ThyssenKrupp Elevator LTD: Dubai was awarded a contract from Dubai International Airport for escalators and lifts valued at more than US$ 50 million – with further contracts in the pipeline.
 
Further major projects which are currently in planning or under construction include Palm Islands, Burj Dubai – the world’s tallest building – Dubai Marina with approx. 1000 apartments, Dubai Festival City, Jumeirah Beach Residence, numerous large hotel projects, airport expansions, etc. Such projects underline the enormous demand for lifts and escalators in the Gulf region.
 
The German TÜV Organisation has established offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and their services include test and certification of lifts.
