Thinner Ropes – More compact and Better Value

All-in package from Pfeifer Drako for small-diameter traction sheaves

The new STX Family track ropes were designed by Pfeifer Drako especially for elevators using smaller traction sheaves. With diameters of just four to five millimeters, the ropes are integral to a comprehensive system that enables thin ropes to be used safely in traction sheave elevators outside established standards. The elevator rope specialists will be presenting the innovation at this year’s Interlift in Augsburg, Germany, 13 to 16 October.

Due to its high breaking strength and low elasticity, Drako STX is perfect for deployment in systems with small and medium lifting heights of up to 75 meters. The interaction with the relatively small 160-mm diameter traction sheaves forms the basis for compact drives. They in turn save space and, because of their lower rated power at a higher rotational speed, are less expensive. A further advantage lies in the lower weight which reduces the net mass of the elevator car and so increases available payload.
To facilitate the safe and simple installation of the thin ropes in the shafts, Pfeifer Drako delivers the STX Family ropes on special reels. The mounting clip is used to bundle several ropes together without warping and the Drako T-socket means they can be mounted space-savingly at the machine frame. The special T-shape rope-end terminations, along with suitable connecting plate, make it possible to mount them in a tightly packed arrangement – and that without any undesirable diagonal pull.
Similarly, to ensure that the mechanics can adjust rope tension swiftly, Pfeifer Drako offers a special “Weight Watcher”. Able to monitor up to twelve ropes simultaneously, this compact portable device – with its unique patented electronic measuring system – provides precise readings about elevator car weight and counterweight.
