The majority of the exhibition visitors came from China; on hand were, in addition to lift manufacturers, service centres and factories as well as general contractors. India in particular was well represented among the overseas visitors; there was also a strong presence from the Middle East and Gulf States, not to mention Asia including Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Singapore.

The lift manufacturers were assigned their own hall to display their individual product and service ranges. Among those represented were Toshiba and Mitsubishi, as well as a few others who used large booths to present themselves to their customers.
The rest of the well booked exhibition centre in Langfang was given over to the component manufacturers. It was impossible not to notice the variety of components currently made in China. There were several manufacturers for each component, and each component was available in different designs and quality levels.
This is a reflection of the Chinese lift market itself: with an estimated number of 250,000 new systems in 2010 alone, it is without doubt the most important market in the world. There is, it seems, indeed a market available to support the numerous components on offer. A striking feature of these products and services, however, is that all of them are aimed at the Chinese mass market. The component manufacturers, as well as the lift manufacturers, all cater to the manufacture and installation of mass products.
The European contribution to the exhibition was limited to a few Chinese branch offices/subsidiaries of German and European companies, exhibiting products made for the Chinese market. The number of European visitors and exhibitors at the booths of the subsidiary companies remained limited, however, as volcano ash caused many flights to be cancelled.
The World Elevator and Escalator EXPO’10 has become an important exhibition in the Chinese lift industry in the last years. Anyone who wants to do business with China would do well to visit the exhibition.
